The chimera is a creature consisting of parts from different animals. Usually it is depicted as a large lion, with the head of a goat growing out from it's back and a tail ending in a snake head. It also has the ability to breathe fire. Seeing one is a bad omen.

The chimera is the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. The chimera's sisters are the Hydra, Cerberus, Sphinx and Orthrus. The earliest mention is in Homer's epic poem Iliad.
There is also a genetic chimerism, when a single organism is created of cells from different zygotes.
